STARTING R.S MOT & SERVICE CENTRE

R.S MOT and Service Centre is a family-run business that has been open since 1987 for over three decades, that’s 35 years and still going! A feat we are proud of in its own right in today’s business client. We feel this is because we have stuck to Family values and always look after our customers as we would want to be looked after. Started by Reg Moses the company has grown over the years into a successful business in Witham, Essex.

Before starting his own company, Reg worked as a workshop foreman for over 15 years and in his spare time he ran a hotrod team. He has over 30 years of mechanical experience – a useful skill perfected by his expertise behind the wheel of his hotrod car and overall interest in cars and what makes them go.

Reg then found a location in the Witham British Rail Station car park, which he opened with a small team which lead to the business we have today. Reg saw that the people of Witham could use a garage that was not only trustworthy and reliable but also handy for the commuting town that Witham was and still is. Being directly opposite the station and situated in the car park itself, it was an ideal spot to serve the car users of Witham. “The business has since moved due to redevelopment to Witham train station but was located there for over 20 plus years”.

Reg’s Wife Sue joined the business to help with the logistics running of the business. She was in charge of picking up vehicles from other garages and also traders who used our services. As well as arranging our free collection and drop off service for our customers new or old. Sue became an integral face of the business seen more than Reg himself most days and was always around to have a chat and get you a brew all while your car was being looked after by the experts.

Reg’s son James joined the business in 2008 as the company’s General Manager. He spearheaded the overhaul of the customer services offered from a garage, he believed in image, comfort and above and beyond service and all with a fair price to go with it. James kept the business running efficiently and is well experienced in customer services, ensuring that you leave the garage happy with a good job well-done. Skills passed down to all the team from the office to the workshop. If you want an answer to a knotty problem, James was the one to ask. James left the business in 2014 to carry out his love for Retail work and now helps run the business from behind the scenes with his advice on customer service.

In James’s time with the business, he was lucky to bring along to the team Julie “the aunty” Julie came into the business when the UK hit a Business crash and she was made sadly redundant from her line of work. But are we glad she did! Julie has been with us since 2008 and has firmly been seated behind the helm of reception ever since. Now a very well know face like her sister Sue. Julie is a customer favourite when bringing in their car. She makes sure that your vehicle is well looked after as well as researching and finding any parts your car need. She will find the best price from our suppliers; she never takes the first price and guarantees she can get it more affordable to pass on the discounts to you. A valuable asset we say!

Sharon, Reg’s Daughter is now the Current Director since 2017 and took over Reg’s duties due to ill health and early retirement, Sharon has been The service centre’s 3rd generation director and has taken the business to new leaps and bounds, investing heavily in new technologies and also leading the business move to its new location in MOSS road. Sharon worked in the garage in her student years while she was studying and ran the office alongside Eric and other team members. Sharon then started a family but when the time was right she was back in the proverbial driver’s seat and wanted to take off where she left off, Sharon has continued to grow the business to new heights and is extremely proud of where she has been able to grow the business, even though multiple recessions in the UK and though the Covid pandemic. She is the current leading director of the business but still confides in advice from Reg who from behind the scenes still advises where possible and continues to give knowledge and research into the new and older vehicles.

Among the rest of the team, there are experts in all ranges of specialist areas that we are proud to look after in our family-run business. The level of customer service has always been of great importance to Reg, James & Sharon over the years of their combined ownership, together with providing the best level of support for all their customers. Each customer is treated as an individual – not a number. We would like to thank our loyal and new customers and look forward to continuing the motoring journey for generations to come.
